The Common Wheel exists for one simple reason — to revolutionize people and places using the energy and equity of bicycles
Why Bike?
Just think about it: 70% of all car trips in the U.S. are under two miles. If people begin to replace these car trips with short bicycle rides, we can have a tremendous impact on our entire community.
Biking allows you to incorporate exercise into your daily routine. It reduces pollution and CO2 emissions immensely, positively impacting the environment. It is an accessible and relatively inexpensive form of transportation for those who can’t drive or afford a car. It dramatically reduces congestion in our downtown, while also providing more commerce for local businesses. Plus, biking is an efficient, practical, and incredibly fun way to get around.
Lancaster has invested (and should continue investing) in bicycle infrastructure to provide a safe and comfortable travel experience for those riding on public roads, as well as more convenient access to bicycle parking. Together, we can create a vibrant, safe, and inclusive biking culture right here in our little city, improving the quality of life for every member of our community, either directly or indirectly.
Our Values
-
Empowerment
Improving the lives of the people we serve is central to why we exist and we see bicycles as tools that can revolutionize the lives of individuals and our community as a whole.
-
Community
Community is strength. It allows us to stand together and advocate for a cause we believe in. It takes a collaborative community to support and grow a bicycle movement, therefore it is essential that we embrace this movement together.
-
Diversity
Cycling can, and should be, accessible to everyone regardless of age, gender identity, language, skin color, belief, ability, or income level. Our space is a welcoming and inclusive place which serves to help all who come through our doors. We value the vibrancy of our community and look for ways to incorporate joy and love into everything we do.
-
Sustainability
We aim to be conscious of the environmental implications of what we do, finding ways to incorporate sustainable ideas into our operations whenever possible.
